Home Grown Crops and Products

Paul and his team are responsible for growing all of the fruit and vegetables on the farm and for the plants and shrubs etc in the nursery. They are outside in all winds and weathers (including the good stuff!) to bring us the things that we like, they include:

Strawberries and our other soft fruits

Tabletop strawberrysWe took the backache out of strawberry picking a few years ago when we developed our unique tabletop growing system. It enables us to grow high quality fruit from May to October. Because of its qualities, we use only one strawberry variety - "Elsanta", which produces large, sweet fruit of the very best quality.

Our other fruits are also grown to a very high standard and we have picked out the varieties over the years which suit our customers needs best. Fruit that we grow and cropping times.

Vegetables

The first crop of the year is our famous asparagus - the weather dictates when we can start cutting this but it is usually sometime between late April and early May. The season is relatively short - we stop cutting on June 21 - so our customers make the most of it while it is plentiful! Next up is usually broad beans; we grow two crops of these and some regular customers pick them by the sackful so that they can freeze them for the later months. The vegetables later in the season include our very popular runner beans and sweetcorn - once you have eaten corn freshly picked with its sugar content at its highest, you'll realise what you have been missing before. What we grow and when it is available.

 Salad crops and fresh herbs

When you have tasted these little beauties, picked fresh, every morning, you will never want to eat a supermarket lettuce again! Food miles travelled - ZERO!!!!! Salads and herb cropping times.

 Onions and pumpkins

We currently source our pumpkins and onions from a farm in Gloucester we "plait" the onions onto strings of raffia and then sell them by the string. These prove very popular for hanging in kitchens and using throughout the winter. Not only do they make your kitchen look pretty but this also makes the onions last longer too! Pumpkins are available a couple of weeks before Halloween and are of various shapes and sizes.

Christmas trees, holly wreaths and mistletoe

We sell two varieties of Christmas Tree, the traditional Norway Spruce and the non drop variety Nordmann Fir. Both varieties are of the best quality and very reasonably priced.
