Does Mr Bubbles think he’s a dog?

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Our greedy porker Percy has driven Mr Bubbles to use alternative measures to ensure he gets enough food! His tactics already include grabbing food, running away and hiding in his shed to eat it before Percy grabs it from him. Now our lovely Mr Bubbles sits and begs like a dog! Before we know it he’ll be rolling over for his tummy to be tickled…

Come and visit Mr Bubbles and Percy  – now the best of friends (when not fighting over food) in the top field. Afterwards come and try our new indoor warm seating area for a hot drink and snack.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Onion Stringing

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

With Autumn upon us, staff at Wotton Farm Shop have been busy with the ancient art of onion stringing.  Roger and Di dust off their wooden tripods and set to work stringing onions for sale in our farm shop and farm shops nationwide.

If you would like to see a demonstration of how to string onions  pop into the farm shop to see Roger or Di hard at work!

Wotton is blooming

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Wotton is looking fantastic this summer with over 150 hanging baskets all across the town. The Wotton in Bloom Committee was formed with the aim of creating a more attractive town in which to live, work and visit.

Wotton Farm Shop planted, nurtured and then supplied the baskets which are hung around Wotton. This is the  first time the town has embarked on such a project and local people are very pleased with the results.

Mr Bubbles has arrived!

Monday, August 16th, 2010

We are delighted to introduce you to our new addition to the Wotton Farm Shop Family – a friend for Percy.

Mr Bubbles is our new pet Kune Kune Pig, he is very friendly and often thinks he is a dog, when we give  him something nice and tasty to eat and he will sit and beg!

Please don’t feed Mr Bubbles he has very large sharp teeth.

Kune Kune (pronounced Coonie Coonie) in the Maori language it means ‘fat and round’ a rather good description of the lovely Mr Bubbles.

The Kune Kune breed is a  domestic New Zealand Pig with wattles hanging from their lower jaw, they have a placid friendly nature and are often kept as pets.

Percy goes for a wander!

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Our very own Percy the Pig decided that he fancied a change of scene last saturday and broke free from his pen at the front of the shop. After squeezing through the fence he trotted off to have a look around.

After securing the gate, and some gentle encouragement of food, Percy was led to the top field to spend time with his new piglet friends. To visit him, turn left as you come in the gate and head up the hill. There you will find Percy and the piglets, and the alpacas in the field behind.

More about Percy.

Local Cotswold Charcoal

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Wotton Farm Shop is pleased to be stocking Cotswold Charcoal which is locally produced at Westonbirt Arboretum as part of the extensive coppice restoration programme there.

The kiln is stacked with wood, usually oak branchwood, ans set alight. When the fire is drawing well, the lid and chimneys are put in place and the charring process commences. 24 hours or so later, the kiln is sealed and left to cool. It can then be emptied , the charcoal bagged up and delivered to us.

The charcoal produced is superior in quality to imported briquettes and lumpwood, lighting more easily and burning hotter. Its manufacture supports the sustainable management of local woodlands and reduces the amount of transport involved in its distribution. also unlike gas it is carbon neutral.

Cotswold Charcoal is available in two sizes from Wotton Farm Shop.

10th Strawberry Ball Success

Monday, July 26th, 2010

Wotton Farm Shop is pleased to report that this year’s 10th Annual Strawberry Ball raised approx. £10,500 for Cancer Research UK and the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust. We are delighted with this year’s success and thanks goes to all our supporters, donators and volunteers who helped before the event and during the evening.

This year the weather was on our side both during the event and before the event to ripen all the strawberries that we donate for the dessert.

Following 10 successful year’s of the Strawberry Ball we will be taking a break next year with the next Strawberry Ball taking place in 2012.
